Innovate Ukraine

In 2025, Pulsar Scientific and Engineering Group LLC secured funding through the Innovate Ukraine program to implement two joint Ukrainian-British innovation projects.

1. Project Sustainable ThermoSolutions (Simple Heat), Project Number: 10165536, aims to develop, pilot, and prepare for the scaling up of the Simple Heat modular clean heat supply system. The key idea behind Simple Heat is to transform the byproducts of war (construction debris, industrial wastewater, and complex waste fractions) into a source of stable, affordable, and environmentally friendly heat through a combination of:

  • a solid-state thermal storage system made of nanocomposites based on recycled cement;
  • clean heat generation from hydrogen or synthesis gas;
  • a modular, autonomous architecture independent of centralized grids.

The project addresses the key challenges of Ukraine’s post-war recovery:

  • the destruction of heating and electricity infrastructure;
  • the rise in energy poverty among vulnerable population groups;
  • the accumulation of construction waste and process water following the destruction;
  • the need for rapid, decentralized, and low-carbon solutions.

2. Project Re-power Ukraine: Plasma-driven Energy Independence, Application Number: 10163613. This project aims to conduct a pilot implementation and bring a mobile plasma unit for processing mixed municipal waste to operational readiness, while simultaneously generating energy in the form of synthesis gas.

The technological core of the project is a containerized, mobile steam-plasma gasification unit, which provides:

  • the use of water vapor as a plasma-forming medium, which:
    • eliminates the formation of dioxins, furans, tars, and phenols;
    • reduces environmental risks compared to conventional plasma or incineration systems;
  • high-temperature (>1200°C) decomposition of organic and hazardous waste components;
  • production of:
    • synthesis gas (CO, H₂, CH₄) for heat or electricity generation;
    • inert vitrified slag suitable for use in construction materials;
  • autonomous operation of the facility with energy consumption of <5 kW/m³ of waste;
  • mobility and the ability to deploy quickly without reliance on centralized infrastructure.
